Located in the countryside by Forest-in-Teesdale, England, the 'Chapel on the Hill' had actually fallen into a state of disrepair and damage until it was recently revitalized. The interior was given a clean and contemporary makeover, but the designer still maintained [gothic-inspired touches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/st-marys-coptic-church) of the original structure like arched windows and exposed wooden trusses. This home chapel features a living room, kitchen, bathroom and can comfortably sleep seven people at any given time. To help accommodate this floor plan, a second level mezzanine was added for two of the three bedrooms on site. On the outside of the chapel, the [original stone exterior](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hameart-project) was maintained, and skylights were put into the roof to help let natural sunlight flood inside the space. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.1/10 - Popularity: 61% | Activity: 53% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Rustic Contemporary Homes:** Opportunity for architects and designers to refurbish heritage structures into modern living spaces with a blend of rustic and contemporary elements. - **Preservation and Restoration:** Increase in demand for revitalizing historic buildings while preserving their architectural features and cultural significance, creating unique living spaces. - **Multi-functional Living Spaces:** Growing interest in homes that offer flexible floor plans to accommodate various activities, such as working, entertaining, and sleeping, in limited spaces. ### Where This Applies - **Architecture and Design:** Opportunity for architects and designers to specialize in the refurbishment of historic structures and create innovative, livable spaces. - **Hospitality and Tourism:** Unique home chapels can attract tourists seeking immersive experiences in distinctive accommodations, driving growth in the hospitality industry. - **Real Estate and Property Development:** Revitalizing heritage properties into modern homes presents an opportunity for developers to meet the demand for unique and character-filled living spaces. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Hillside Timber Chapels](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/chapel-of-st-thrse-of-lisieux.md) - [Compact Urban Cafes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-chapel.md) - [Revived Stone Sheds](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/microhome-renovation.md) - [Compact Cottage Revivals](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rustic-renovation.md) - [Adaptive Restaurant Interiors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/motorino.md) - [Building-Nestled Compact Cafes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/chapel-cafe.md) - [Stone Cottage Renos](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hameart-project.md) - [Historic Farmhouse Revivals](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/joe-burns.md) - [Contemporary Countryside Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/contemporary-countryside-home.md)
