# Honeycomb Furniture The Hive Chair by Marco Torres Mimics Nature's Sweet Design By Ayman | Published 2009-04-15 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hive-chair-marco-torres References: [flickr](http://www.flickr.com/photos/tranism/sets/72157616192332846/) & [yankodesign](http://www.yankodesign.com/2009/04/13/relax-contest-winner-fluid-rocker/) The Hive is a striking [chair design](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ff-chair-collection) that is the perfect gift chair for bee lovers. Designer Marco Torres explains that his aim was to create a chair that had a [suspended seat area](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shanti-chair) that was not rigid. So where does the flexibility come from? The Hive’s [hexagonal pattern](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sitter-chair) is made from an elastomer that allows for flexibility when someone sits on it. I really like this design. It updates a traditional look with something exciting and comfortable. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.9/10 - Popularity: 28% | Activity: 51% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Honeycomb Furniture:** The use of honeycomb patterns in furniture design allows for flexible and comfortable seating options. ### Where This Applies - **Furniture Design:** Furniture designers can incorporate honeycomb patterns and elastomer materials to create innovative and comfortable seating options. - **Home Decor:** Home decor companies can offer honeycomb furniture as a unique and functional design element for bee enthusiasts. - **Interior Design:** Interior designers can use honeycomb furniture as a statement piece that adds both style and comfort to spaces. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Rope-Like Dynamic Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/caterpillar-lounge.md) - [Insect-Like Seating Solutions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-mantis-chair.md) - [Wavy Lounge Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wavy-lounge-chair.md) - [Intricately Woven Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/woven-chair-designs.md) - [Fishing-Inspired Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/akos-huber.md) - [Ultra-Precise Woven Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/woven-chair-design.md) - [Chaotically Natural Seating Solutions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kkochgalam-chair.md) - [Naturalistic Grass-Inspired Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-flip-chair.md) - [Marbles-Inspired Intricate Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shepherd-studio.md)
