To protect residents in the stormy south shore region of Long Island, architectural firm [Bates Masi Architects](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/three-mile-harbor) put together a home on top of a dune that is designed to be [weather proof](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/acute-house) as well as incredibly modern and stylish. The home features a series of engineered wooden panels and a design position that is angled towards the wind's natural orientation. This helps the home stand unaltered as the heavy gusts move through the area.

The home, located in Amagansett, features a modular aesthetic complete with [floor to ceiling windows](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/big-sky-beach-house) that are able to open up fully from the side. The windows are hinged to the wooden exterior and offer air circulation throughout the open-concept space. This is crucial as the tough winds often drag up sand from the beach.
