# Burnt High-Voltage Art Melanie Hoff Connected 15,000 Volts of Electricity to a Plank of Wood By Simal Yilmaz | Published 2013-03-08 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/high-voltage-art References: [presurfer.blogspot](http://presurfer.blogspot.com/2013/03/15000-volts.html) & [vimeo](https://vimeo.com/60814695) Melanie Hoff’s high-voltage art video is one that is certainly unique and not rarely experimented with. She connected a number of cables carrying 15,000 volts of electricity to a [large plank of wood](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wooden-sculptures-1) and filmed the outcome, which turned out to be surprisingly exquisite. What interested me most while watching the video was how much the electricity spread around the wood in a way that was shaped like human arteries. The shape also resembles moss that spreads rocks underwater and [tree branches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-great-tree) that rise to the air. It is always intriguing to observe how similar certain [shapes in nature](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shiyuan-xu) are to each other. The shapes that formed on the wooden plank were very dynamic and poetic. They created a story that could only be interpreted with some fascination and imagination. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.2/10 - Popularity: 38% | Activity: 49% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **High-voltage Art:** Artists could experiment with high-voltage technology to create unique visual experiences and expand the boundaries of traditional art forms. - **Natural-inspired Shapes:** The shapes that formed on the wooden plank could inspire the creation of organic and nature-inspired designs in a variety of industries. - **Visual Storytelling:** The dynamic and poetic nature of the high-voltage art could be used to convey meaningful stories in advertising, film-making, and other visual mediums. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Art:** Artists can leverage high-voltage technology to create unique works that push the boundaries of traditional art forms. - **Design:** Natural-inspired shapes could be used in product design and architecture to create more fluid and organic forms. - **Advertising:** Visual storytelling could be used to convey more powerful brand messaging and create memorable marketing campaigns. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Lightning-Inspired Artful Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bright-light-shining.md) - [Vibrantly Colorful Dynamic Artwork](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kayla-rumpp.md) - [Natural Rock-Imitating Extension Cords](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/power-gem.md) - [Physics-Informed Digital Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/motion-sculpture.md) - [Unique Interactive Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-aurora.md) - [Sculptural Wooden Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/arc-lamp.md) - [Otherworldly Wooden Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wooden-sculptures-1.md) - [Lightning Bolt-Inspired Interior Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/relmpago-house.md) - [Wooden Identity Art Forms](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hughmanity.md)
