# Perforated Geometric Furniture The Hexa Side Table by Jonathan Dorthe is Clean and Sculptural By Meghan Young | Published 2014-03-13 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hexa-side-table References: [plusmood](http://plusmood.com/2014/03/hexa-side-table-for-atelier-d-jonathan-dorthe/) & [atelier-d](http://www.atelier-d.ca) The Hexa Side Table takes the classic furniture piece and jazzes it up with a dynamic shape and a clean use of materials. As its name suggests, the tabletop is fashioned into a hexagonal shape, giving the accent table a geometric allure. But it doesn't stop there. The surface of the Hexa Side Table is perforated while the ends are folded down to add texture and strength to the overall design. Designed by Montreal-based industrial designer Jonathan Dorthe for Atelier-D, the Hexa Side Table is a subtly sculpture furniture piece that creates "a nice contemporary ambiance and project interesting geometric shadows," as noted by Plus Mood. It is made out of maple wood and white acrylic. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.1/10 - Popularity: 96% | Activity: 18% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Geometric Furniture:** The Hexa Side Table showcases the trend of using geometric shapes in furniture design, creating a visually appealing and modern look. - **Perforated Surfaces:** The perforated surface of the Hexa Side Table highlights the growing trend of incorporating texture and visual interest into furniture pieces. - **Mixed Material Design:** The combination of maple wood and white acrylic in the Hexa Side Table exemplifies the trend of blending different materials to achieve unique and contemporary furniture designs. ### Who This Affects Most - **Furniture Design:** The Hexa Side Table presents an opportunity for furniture designers to explore innovative ways of incorporating geometric shapes and mixed materials into their creations. - **Home Decor:** The trend of geometric furniture, such as the Hexa Side Table, offers home decor companies the chance to introduce visually striking and modern accent pieces that enhance interior aesthetics. - **Interior Design:** With its clean and sculptural design, the Hexa Side Table provides interior designers with an opportunity to incorporate a unique geometric element into their projects, adding a contemporary touch. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Puzzling Geometric Side Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/linked-side-table.md) - [Intersecting Two-Part Side Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shaolin-side-table.md) - [Slender Geometric Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tong-side-table.md) - [Dynamic Geometric Side Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/designated-side-table.md) - [Impactful Industrial Side Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/to-steel-side-table.md) - [Perplexingly Angular Side Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tadashi-side-table.md) - [Architect-Inspired Side Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/norm-architects1.md) - [Fabric-Like Side Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tablecloth-side-table.md) - [Abstract Triangular Side Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/triangle-side-table.md)
