# Comic Character-Infused Illustrations These Pictures Depict Classic Comic Book Heroes and Villains By Lacey-Jane Walsh | Published 2013-08-13 | Pop Culture Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/heroes-and-villains References: [pondly](http://www.pondly.com/2013/08/comic-book-heroes-illustrations-by-joshua-middleton/) & [joshuamiddleton](http://www.joshuamiddleton.com/) These nostalgic illustrations by talented artist Joshua Middleton focus on familiar comic book heroes and villains, like Poison Ivy and Wonder Woman. These awesome artworks capture these heroic figures in action, flying across the galaxy, fighting bad guys and dealing with hardships. Middleton has actually been featured in [DC](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/jim-lee-batman) and [Marvel](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-heroes) comics, but still takes an interest in these epic superheroes. In one of these illustrations, Batman is depicted tied up with vines and pinned to a tree as Poison Ivy teases him. One of the most interesting superhero pictures seen here shows Super Girl frantically flying towards Earth. Observers see her feet first (her face isn't visible in this picture). In another illustration, viewers see Super Girl's back, as she sits, shoulders hunched, on the floor in a hospital. These classic comic character depictions remind DC and Marvel fans of their favorite Superheroes and villains. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.7/10 - Popularity: 70% | Activity: 34% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Pop Culture](https://www.trendhunter.com/popculture) > [Media](https://www.trendhunter.com/media) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Nostalgic Comic Illustrations:** Opportunity to capitalize on the nostalgia trend by creating graphic novels or merchandise featuring classic comic book heroes and villains. - **Inclusive Superhero Art:** Disruptive innovation opportunity to create superhero illustrations that feature more diverse and representative characters, tapping into the growing demand for inclusivity in the comic book industry. - **Immersive Superhero Experiences:** Potential for immersive entertainment experiences such as VR or AR games that allow fans to step into the shoes of their favorite superheroes and interact with the comic book universe. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Publishing:** Opportunity for publishers to release new editions of classic comics with the artist's illustrations, attracting collectors and comic book enthusiasts. - **Merchandise:** Disruptive innovation potential for toy manufacturers and apparel brands to collaborate with the artist to create limited-edition collectibles and clothing featuring the comic book hero illustrations. - **Entertainment:** Opportunity for production studios to adapt these illustrations into animated series or movies, capitalizing on the current popularity of superhero content. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Comic-Inspired Soda Cans](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-heroes.md) - [Superhero-Themed DIY Art Kits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/jim-lee-batman.md) - [Comic-Themed RPG Games](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/jam-city.md) - [Sci-Fi-Inspired Classical Posters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sen-donnan.md) - [Comic-Themed Tech Accessories](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/super-heroes-vs-villains.md) - [Comic Book Character Cereals](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dc-strong-berry-capn-crunch.md) - [Villain-Themed Shoe Capsules](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kith-for-asics.md) - [Reimagined Beloved Character Comics](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/marvel-and-disney.md) - [Classic Superhero-Inspired Donuts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/krispy-kreme-hungry-for-heroes.md)
