# Squat Boxy Lighting The Henk Table Lamp by Jos Blom is Full of Personality By Meghan Young | Published 2014-02-21 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/henk-table-lamp References: [design-milk](http://design-milk.com/simple-table-lamp-named-henk/) & [josblom.nu](http://josblom.nu/projects/Henk/) The Henk Table Lamp might have already been given a name, but it could have easily been named after Tyrion Lannister or, better yet considering its modern appeal, the actor who plays him, Peter Dinklage. It has a squat, boxy appeal that takes after the talented performer perfectly. That is, if the designer still wants to pursue giving the light fixture a personality of its own. Designed by Amsterdam-based Jos Blom, the Henk Table Lamp is made out of two birch ply parts that slide into each other to create a tripod base. The light source itself is encased in two white plastic shells that connect to the base with the help of a colored elastic cord that holds everything together snugly. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.9/10 - Popularity: 34% | Activity: 15% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Boxy Lighting Design:** The trend of creating lighting fixtures with a minimalistic, boxy aesthetic creates opportunities for designers to experiment with new materials and colors to make the products stand out in a saturated lighting market. - **Elastic Cord Accent:** The use of colored elastic cords in lighting fixtures opens up avenues for designers to incorporate playful elements into their products and offer customizable options to consumers. - **Birch Plywood Materials:** The trend of using sustainable materials like birch ply in lighting fixtures offers an opportunity for manufacturers to tap into the growing demand for eco-friendly products. ### Who This Affects Most - **Interior Design:** The trend of minimalistic, boxy lighting design can create an opportunity for interior designers to incorporate the fixtures into their projects, creating a more modern and sleek look for their clients. - **Home Decor:** The Henk Table Lamp and other lighting fixtures created with colored elastic cords offer a playful and customizable option for consumers looking for unique home decor pieces. - **Sustainable Manufacturing:** The use of sustainable materials in lighting fixtures like the Henk Table Lamp presents an opportunity for manufacturers to appeal to eco-conscious consumers and stand out in a competitive market. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Elegant Compact Table Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/air-table-light.md) - [Mushroom-Inspired Table Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/humble-lights.md) - [Character-Like Wireless Illuminators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/puddy-table-lamp.md) - [Playful Table Lamp Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/toto-lamp.md) - [Dynamic Bookend Lighting Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/stair-table.md) - [Retro-Tinged Compact Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lari-mini.md) - [Quirky Common Item Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/table-lamp-lighter.md) - [Geometric Nostalgic Night Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/handmaid-table-lamp.md) - [Space-Saving Desk Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/spacesaving-desk-lamp.md)
