# Stabbed Pop Culture Characters The Hello Kitty Knife Set by Raffeale Iannello is Brutally Cute By Erin Kirkpatrick | Published 2012-06-18 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hello-kitty-knife-set-by-raffeale-iannello References: [gizmodiva](http://www.gizmodiva.com/other_stuff/hello-kitty-knife-set-is-brutal.php) & [kittyhell](http://www.kittyhell.com/2012/06/04/hello-kitty-knife-set/) The Hello Kitty Knife Set by Raffeale Iannello is a whimsical hybrid between a voodoo doll and a decoratively cute knife block. This creative culinary block designed by Iannello recreates Hello Kitty in a sarcastic and desecrating style format that shows the [beloved pop culture character](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/baccarat-x-hello-kitty-crystal-figurine) in a precarious and lethal position. His knife block design shows Hello Kitty’s lifeless body slumping downward after being stabbed with [five razor-sharp kitchen knives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/yin-mo-star-kui) that have perforated her little body. This cruel and murderous Hello Kitty Knife Set was recently exhibited at Milan’s 2012 Design Week and is rumored to be in production -- it may also have the effect of producing nightmares for the young ones. Ianello used inox steel for the knife blades and ABS plastic for the base for a sleek and sophisticated finish. The Knife Set is available in a silver version with a red bow or with the more traditional Hello Kitty colors of white and pink. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.0/10 - Popularity: 56% | Activity: 85% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 30% men, 70% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Home](https://www.trendhunter.com/home) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Whimsical Culinary Accessories:** There is a disruptive innovation opportunity for designers to create whimsical culinary accessories that combine functionality with playful and unique designs. - **Dark Humor Merchandise:** The popularity of dark humor merchandise, like the Hello Kitty Knife Set, presents an opportunity for entrepreneurs to create products that challenge traditional notions of cuteness and appeal to a unique market segment. - **Controversial Design Interpretations:** Designers can explore controversial design interpretations, such as the desecration of pop culture characters, to create thought-provoking and conversation-stimulating products. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Kitchenware:** The kitchenware industry can harness the disruptive innovation opportunity of incorporating unconventional and provocative designs into their product lines to attract customers seeking unique and bold culinary accessories. - **Merchandise Licensing:** Merchandise licensing companies can explore partnerships with designers who can create unconventional interpretations of popular characters, opening up new revenue streams and appealing to niche markets. - **Art and Design Exhibitions:** Art and design exhibitions can showcase controversial and provocative pieces that challenge traditional notions of art and generate discussions on the intersection of popular culture and design. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Anime Horror-Style Reimaginations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/junji-ito-artwork.md) - [Comprehensive Contemporary Knife Sets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/contemporary-knife-set.md) - [Character Crossover Figures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/skullpanda-x-sanrio.md) - [Adorable Kitchen Collectibles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kikkoman-x-hello-kitty.md) - [Cartoon-Honoring High Heels](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hello-kitty-heel.md) - [Child-Friendly Knife Sets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/progressive-knife-set.md) - [3D-Printed Paper Knives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/paper-knives.md) - [Collectible Kawaii Figurines](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hello-kitty-funko.md) - [Cat-Inspired Luxury Accessories](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hello-kitty-and-kate-spade.md)
