Incorporating [mixed media within her pieces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/olga-de-amaral), Altman creates an interesting composition with these lotus leaf skulls. Helen Altman also takes other naturalistic materials to create these works, ranging from [wood pieces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wooden-sculptures-1) and even to cocoons. **Implications** - The skulls created by Helen Altman look as if an insect or bird has made them for a home to sleep in. The Sweet Station website explains that the exhibition piece with the bed represents wasp eggs being "laid on living caterpillars that serve as the host for the growing wasp larvae." The bed is represented as the "victim" in the process. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.4/10 - Popularity: 27% | Activity: 7% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: South America, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Live Arts](https://www.trendhunter.com/livearts) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Mixed Media Art:** The exploration of mixed media in art offers opportunities for unique and captivating compositions. - **Naturalistic Materials:** Using natural materials in art allows for a connection to nature and the creation of thought-provoking pieces. - **Visualizing Life and Death:** Artists like Helen Altman offer a unique perspective on the meaning of life and death through their skeletal art pieces. ### Where This Applies - **Art Exhibitions:** The art exhibition industry can benefit from incorporating mixed media and naturalistic materials to create immersive and captivating experiences for visitors. - **Media Arts:** The field of media arts can embrace mixed media techniques to push the boundaries of traditional art and create visually striking pieces. - **Entertainment and Events:** Using unique art installations, like Helen Altman's skeletal art exhibition, can create a memorable and thought-provoking experience for attendees at entertainment events. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Human Embraced-Inspired Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wallmounted-sculpture.md) - [Raunchy Anime-Inspired Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/manuela-soto-sosa.md) - [Human Torso-Inspired Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lene-bdker.md) - [Medicine-Inspired Artful Shows](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/something-for-the-pain.md) - [Health Object Art Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/out-of-orifice.md) - [Perception-Challenging Art Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/becoming-familiar.md) - [Digital Archetype Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/christian-rex-van-minnen-1.md) - [Futile Material Design Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/please-sit-for-an-alternate-ending.md) - [Dark Abstracted Art Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-minyades-exhibition.md)
