# Giant Prickly Animal Sculptures This Hedgehog Statue is a Massive Ode to the Prickly Creature By Michael Baxter | Published 2014-02-26 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hedgehog-statue References: [laughingsquid](http://laughingsquid.com/incredibly-lifelike-giant-sculpture-of-a-hedgehog-installed-in-a-london-park/) & [dailymail](http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2561009/A-prickly-feat-Giant-hedgehog-sculpture-goes-display-Clapham-Common.html) This hedgehog statue shows the smallest creature in the biggest way possible. The statue just debuted in a London park and is an extremely detailed rendition of the tiny, spiny creature. The public exhibit was created by a full team of artists and took about two months to complete. Given the complexity of the project, two months seems like very little. The purpose of the [surprise exhibit](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/piranha-tank) was to mark the launch of David Attenborough’s TV series Natural Curiosities and this certainly is a curious way to do it. The [giant hedgehog statue](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/queen-elizabeth-ii-1) is made of coconut fibers and willows and comprises [2,000 spines](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ceiba-series). If one was looking for a realistic hedgehog statue this would be the closest thing to it, except for the fact that it’s bigger than a human being of course. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.8/10 - Popularity: 23% | Activity: 53% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Giant Animal Sculptures:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Creating oversized animal sculptures that captivate and amaze viewers. - **Artistic Exhibits:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Incorporating unique and surprising art installations in public spaces to generate interest and engagement. - **Natural Curiosities:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Exploring and showcasing intriguing aspects of nature through creative and attention-grabbing installations. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Art and Sculpture:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Pushing the boundaries of traditional art forms by experimenting with unconventional materials and scale. - **Tourism and Events:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Attracting visitors by organizing eye-catching and memorable exhibits in public spaces. - **Media and Entertainment:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Collaborating with artists to create visually stunning installations that generate buzz and enhance the appeal of TV shows or series. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Folk Creature Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fibredog.md) - [Outdoor Floral Sculpture Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sculptures-at-kew-gardens.md) - [Spiky Inflatable Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/inflatable-sculptures1.md) - [Artist-Designed Sports Statues](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/louis-de-guzman.md) - [Insect-Inspired Bronze Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/insect-bronze-sculptures.md) - [Permanent London Art Installtions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/infinite-accumulation.md) - [Animal-Inspired Sensory Toys](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/spike-the-fine-motor-hedgehog-fidget-friend.md) - [Nature-Inspired Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/humannature-1.md) - [History Museum Garden Renovations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/londons-natural-history-museum.md)
