# Two-Level Treehouses The Hechtel-Eksel Tree House by Baumraum is Environmentally Conscious By Meghan Young | Published 2012-11-21 | Eco Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hechteleksel-tree-house References: [contemporist](http://www.contemporist.com/2012/11/20/the-tree-house-by-baumraum/) & [baumraum.de](http://www.baumraum.de/articles/231/the-treehouse/) The Hechtel-Eksel Tree House is the latest creation by German-based architecture firm Baumraum. Similar to their [past](http://www.trendhunter.com/trends/baumraum) [designs](http://www.trendhunter.com/trends/living-on-a-treehouse), this is more like a house among the trees than an actual treehouse. Standing on stilts does elevate the structure to the level of the treetops. Located in the [Flemish Forest of Belgium](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kasteel), the Hechtel-Eksel Tree House was commissioned by the international paper producer Sappi and its communications agency Proximity BBDO. It was designed to show the company's continued commitment to sustainability and environmental protection. It is made up of [two cabins on different levels](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/columbia-river-valley-lookout), an interconnecting terrace, stairs and, of course, some [steel supports](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/steel-a-frame). By using self-screwing supports instead of concrete, the Hechtel-Eksel Tree House reduces its impact on the forest floor. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.6/10 - Popularity: 93% | Activity: 97% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Eco](https://www.trendhunter.com/eco) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Environmentally Conscious Architecture:** Creating structures that prioritize sustainability and environmental protection. - **House Among the Trees:** Designing treehouses that mimic the experience of living amidst the treetops. - **Innovative Construction Methods:** Exploring alternative building techniques, such as self-screwing supports instead of concrete. ### Where This Applies - **Architecture:** Building eco-friendly and visually appealing structures. - **Tourism and Hospitality:** Offering unique and immersive treehouse accommodations to attract nature-loving travelers. - **Construction and Engineering:** Developing and implementing innovative construction techniques to reduce environmental impact. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Contemporary Conservationist Treehouses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sylvascope-treehouse.md) - [Elevated Treetop Modern Cabins](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/buitenverblijf-nest.md) - [Cartoonish Tubular Treehouses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tubular-treehouse.md) - [Nature-Immersive Tranquil Resorts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/treehouse-villas.md) - [Repurposed Wooden Shoreside Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tree-house-by-the-lake.md) - [Solar Powered Luxe Treehouses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-baltic.md) - [Vaulted Structural Telescopic Treehouse](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/artistree-home.md) - [Slatted Steel Treehouse Surroundings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sawmill-treehouse.md) - [Modular Wooden Holiday Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/piil.md)
