# Phone-Unlocking Pulses Heartbeat Sensors to Unlock Phones are in the Works By Katherinev123 | Published 2010-06-14 | Lifestyle Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hearbeat-sensors-to-unlock-phones References: [telegraph](http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/apple/7823469/How-your-heart-could-hold-the-key-to-your-iPhone.html) A computer manufacturer based out of California is developing [heartbeat sensors to unlock phones](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/smart-lock-technology) and other gadgets. While at this time the manufacturer's sensors are only being installed into phones to monitor [heart rates](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/heart-listener) (such as those of cardiac patients), the company's patent expresses that such a development could be extrapolated to be used for [user identification and authentication](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ultraloq-smart-home-locks). Heartbeat sensors to unlock phones stands to be a huge development in the tech world--the user's pulse could be measured through the touchscreen on certain gadgets, which could allow for the detection of unique heartbeat patterns and thus the ability to distinguish users. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.6/10 - Popularity: 33% | Activity: 67% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Lifestyle](https://www.trendhunter.com/lifestyle) > [Health](https://www.trendhunter.com/health) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Heartbeat Sensors:** Heartbeat sensors for user identification and authentication on phones and gadgets. - **Unique Heartbeat Patterns:** Detection and recognition of unique heartbeat patterns for user authentication. - **Tech Authentication Innovation:** Innovations in tech authentication through the use of heartbeat sensors. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Consumer Electronics:** Heartbeat sensors for unlocking phones and gadgets in the consumer electronics industry. - **Healthcare Technology:** Heart rate monitoring and authentication in cardiac patients in the healthcare technology industry. - **Biometric Security:** Heartbeat sensors for user identification and authentication in the biometric security industry. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Palm-Recognizing Smart Locks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/phillips-palmlock.md) - [Heartbeat-Mimicking Jewelry](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/thetouch-locket.md) - [Inclusive Smartphone Prototype Apps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/onebuttonpin.md) - [Palm Print Authentication Smartphones](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/realme-gt5-pro.md) - [Smartphone-Connected Heart Monitors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mfine-1.md) - [Futuristic Palm-Scna Locks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tcl-d2-pro.md) - [Fingerprint Scanner Displays](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sensor-oled.md) - [Palm-Recognizing Smart Locks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/smart-deadbolt.md) - [Fingerprint-Scanning Payment Cards](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/biometric-payment-cards.md)
