# Head-Protecting Seating The Mamoris Chair Offers Accessible Head Protection in Case of Earthquakes By Laura McQuarrie | Published 2013-11-01 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/head-protection References: [en.rocketnews24](http://en.rocketnews24.com/2013/10/29/mamoris-looks-like-a-toilet-works-like-a-hard-hat) & [nlab.itmedia.co.jp](http://nlab.itmedia.co.jp/nl/articles/1310/27/news009.html) Having access to head protection in the case of a disastrous situation is ideal, but logistically, it can be difficult to be prepared for any kind of disaster, especially when storage space is short in schools, workplaces and homes. The Japanese-designed 'Mamoris' chair looks a little strange and almost toilet-like no matter which way you look at it, but if pieces of debris started to fall from above during an earthquake, this design might not seem so silly after all. The [chair's seat](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/patan-chair) can be turned 90 degrees to release the helmet, which provides full coverage for a considerable amount of the head, neck and shoulders. Since the helmet is integrated into the design of this furniture piece, access to it in case of an emergency is within an arm's reach. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.7/10 - Popularity: 18% | Activity: 24% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Integrated Head Protection:** Integrated head protection in furniture design provides easy access and readiness for disaster situations. - **Space-efficient Storage Solutions:** Developing compact and functional storage solutions for emergency equipment in schools, workplaces, and homes. - **Disaster-resilient Furniture:** Designing furniture that combines aesthetics with head protection features to enhance safety during disasters. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Furniture Design:** There is an opportunity for furniture designers to incorporate safety features into their products, such as integrated head protection. - **Emergency Preparedness:** The industry focused on emergency preparedness can develop space-efficient storage solutions and innovative protective equipment for disaster situations. - **Safety and Security:** The safety and security industry can explore the development of disaster-resilient furniture that combines style and protective features. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Antitheft Storage Seating Solutions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/afford-chair.md) - [Collapsible Posture Support Seats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ergonomic-portable-seat.md) - [Minimalist Privacy Seating Solutions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/furniture-seat-design.md) - [Self-Defence Tubular Inflatable Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/street-seat.md) - [Wellbeing-Harnessing Fan-Like Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shanti-chair.md) - [Ergonomic Versatile Wooden Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ergonomic-chair-1.md) - [Avian-Inspired Privacy Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/peacock-chair-concept.md) - [Flatpack Cyclist Safety Equipment](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/folding-helmet-concept.md) - [Relaxed Anti-Distraction Seats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fortune-chair.md)
