# High-Performing Smartphone Cameras The Pixel 8 Plans to Incorporate a New HDR Technique By Amy Duong | Published 2022-12-22 | Tech Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hdr-technique References: [theverge](https://www.theverge.com/2022/12/20/23519193/google-pixel-8-camera-rumor-staggered-hdr-sensor) The [Pixel 8](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pixel-8-pro) phone has yet to come but some details of the [camera app](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/process-zero) code have been unveiled by developer Kuba Wojciechowski with a new HDR technique. It now appears to be evolving and highlights staggered HDR, which is a method that essentially captures short and long exposures of scenes nearly immediately. [Google](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/google-pixel-7) currently has HDR Plus Bracketing, which helps users with individual photos in rapid succession and uses this to create a final image with a wide and dynamic range. This means that there is detail in both the shadow and highlighting areas. With a staggered HDR, the short exposure follows the long exposure before it is even complete and the rolling shutter effect scans the sensor all throughout.
