# Magnified Postmodern Dollhouses Haus E17 Charms with Abstractness, Simplicity and Iconic Quality By Amelia Roblin | Published 2013-02-01 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/haus-e17 References: [dezeen](http://www.dezeen.com/2013/02/01/haus-e17-in-metzingen-by-search-architekten/) & [se-arch.de](http://se-arch.de/) The basic pitched roof house has been simplified and symbolized in the design of Haus E17, as a way to connect with its historic setting, while asserting its contemporary emergence. Nestled into the Kelterplatz in Metzingen, Germany, with seven old Keltern dwellings, this residence certainly sticks out. The four-and-a-half level home has an abstract foundation of a skewed rectangle, allowing it to take advantage of its unusual-shaped lot. It rises up with [flat stuccoed sides](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/silver-house) and features a curious arrangement of quadrilateral windows that protrude to create framed views from the inside. A [steep pitched roof](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-house-on-a-hill) caps (se)arch's Haus E17; however, this matches the slope of its neighbors. Even the [dark brown shingles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/1807-holiday) complement the surrounding houses because this ultra-modern domicile was required to fit in. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.4/10 - Popularity: 87% | Activity: 36% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Gen Alpha, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Architecture](https://www.trendhunter.com/architecture) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Abstraction Architecture:** Designing buildings with simplified and abstract shapes that create a contemporary aura while maintaining a connection with historic setting - **Framed Views:** Using quadrilateral windows that protrude from the building's facade to create framed views from the inside - **Contextual Modernism:** Creating modern buildings that blend with the surrounding architecture in terms of roof slope, color, and overall aesthetics ### Who This Affects Most - **Architecture:** Opportunity for architects to create unique designs that connect with the building's context while creating a contemporary look and feel - **Real Estate:** Opportunity for real estate developers to create properties that stand out from the crowd by incorporating abstract design elements that maintain a connection to the surrounding community - **Construction:** Opportunity for construction companies to adopt innovative building techniques and materials to construct modern and abstract buildings that fit in with the surrounding community ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Juxtaposing History-Preserved Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/double-gable.md) - [Monochromatic Minimal Cozy Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vaulted-monochrome-haus.md) - [Upward-Pitched Roof Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/oneill-mcvoy-architects.md) - [Hat-Shaped Metal-Topped Holiday Cabins](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hee-house.md) - [Geometric Timber Holiday Cabins](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/amunt.md) - [Nature-Rooted Family Retreats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/haus-am-lagnesberg.md) - [Sculptural Inverted Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/a-house-with-an-inverted-roof.md) - [Duplex-Appearing Home Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/duplex-house.md) - [Refurnished Concrete Shingle Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gingerbread-house-1.md)
