# Lumber Cap Lights Antique Hat Blocks Inspired the Design of This Winning Timber Hat Lamp By Amelia Roblin | Published 2015-04-03 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hat-block References: [contemporist](http://www.contemporist.com/2015/04/02/the-hat-lamp-by-norm-architects/) & [normcph](http://normcph.com/design/hat/) The concept of a hat block influencing the look of a light fixture might be a quirky one, but it certainly makes some sense. With a whole room dressed in paint and fabric and equipped with functional furnishings, this Hat Lamp represents the fashionable crown of the space. Jonas and Kasper of Norm.Architects were fascinated by the vintage hat maker's frame, which––like many other objects from its bygone ear––have become artifacts of great demand for contemporary collectors. The beautiful and quite purist form of the bell-shaped wooden structure makes a natural lampshade for the white coated lightbulb embedded beneath it. It's gorgeous decorative goods like this hat block pendant lamp that elegantly tie retro relics in with practical modern products for quality balanced design. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.6/10 - Popularity: 65% | Activity: 34% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 30% men, 70% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Retro-inspired Lighting:** Opportunity for designers to create lighting fixtures that combine vintage aesthetics with modern functionality. - **Quirky Design Influences:** Designers can find inspiration in unconventional objects to create unique and eye-catching products. - **Balanced Retro-modern Design:** Combining elements of the past with contemporary aesthetics to create harmonious and visually appealing designs. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Interior Design:** Innovative lighting solutions that fuse retro and modern design can be adopted by the interior design industry to enhance the atmosphere of spaces. - **Furniture Manufacturing:** Furniture manufacturers can incorporate quirky design influences in their products, attracting customers looking for unique and distinctive pieces. - **Home Decor:** The home decor industry can benefit from offering retro-inspired items that appeal to the growing nostalgia trend among consumers. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Hat-Like Fabric Illuminators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flying-lamp.md) - [Twisting Timber Lampshade Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/twisted-lasercut-wooden-lampshade.md) - [Transparent Base Sleek Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/chapeaux-lamp.md) - [Pine Wood-Inspired Minimal Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/jakobsson.md) - [Pencil Shaving-Inspired Illuminators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sharpener-lampshades.md) - [Architecturally Inspired Lighting Capsules](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fall-2022-lighting.md) - [Archetypal Conical Light Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fragile-lamp.md) - [Sculptural Wooden Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/arc-lamp.md) - [Posh Paper Craft-Inspired Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/japandi-lamp.md)
