Eric Rimm, Sc.D., associate professor of epidemiology and nutrition at the [Harvard School of Public Health](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/Zeta-Surgical) in Boston, says, "The healthiest people include [moderate drinking](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gordons-mix-it-up) in their lifestyle. You can reap alcohol's health benefits within weeks, and the gains accumulate over time. Stick to one drink a day, and fewer than seven a week."

A drink is equivalent to 12 ounces of beer, 5 ounces of wine, or 1½ ounces of 80-proof liquor, and the limit is one-a-day.

Moderate consumption (one drink a day) of alcohol can raise HDL (“good”) cholesterol; help regulate insulin (blood sugar) levels, lowering your risk for type 2 diabetes; and protect against rheumatoid arthritis. Additionally, women who drink moderately enjoy better overall health than women who never drink at all.

Cheers!
