# Crisply Cute Cartoons These Harry Nesbitt Illustrations are Whimsical & Bizarre By Josh Triantafilou | Published 2012-04-01 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/harry-nesbitt1 References: [visualnews](http://www.visualnews.com/2012/03/29/quirky-characters-with-a-lot-of-charm/) & [harrynesbitt](http://www.harrynesbitt.com/) Harry Nesbitt has an eye for clean lines and cute design. Even a quick glance at his illustrations makes this point clear. Harry Nesbitt depicts [cartoon characters reminiscent of Japanese kawaii](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dearcloud-x-miffy) but nonetheless distinct. Still, the cuteness of the characters does not distract from Harry Nesbitt's wry sense of humor. One illustration features [a building with a mouth](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hubbabubbabuilding) that functions as a doorway and eyes that serve as windows. Leading into this doorway is a platform, held by what seem to be arms of the building. People walk the platform into the mouth of the building. This sort of [dark whimsy](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/junji-ito-artwork) seems to be a signature of Harry Nesbitt. The aforementioned scene also demonstrates Harry Nesbitt's ability to illustrate figures so as to appear as two different things. The artist, no doubt, is talented. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.1/10 - Popularity: 37% | Activity: 18% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 30% men, 70% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Clean Line Illustrations:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation lies in developing new techniques and tools for creating clean and precise illustrations. - **Kawaii-inspired Art:** There is potential for disruptive innovation by combining the cute, kawaii aesthetic with different art styles or themes to create unique and eye-catching illustrations. - **Whimsical Dark Humor:** Disruptive innovation can be achieved by leveraging the contrast between whimsical and dark elements in art and design to create unexpected and thought-provoking visuals. ### Where This Applies - **Art and Design:** Innovation opportunities exist in the art and design industry by exploring new illustration techniques and pushing the boundaries of traditional styles. - **Entertainment and Media:** The entertainment and media industry can benefit from incorporating kawaii-inspired art into various mediums, such as animation, gaming, and merchandise, to engage and captivate audiences. - **Advertising and Marketing:** Disruptive innovation in advertising and marketing can be achieved by using whimsical dark humor in visual campaigns to create memorable and impactful messaging. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Cheekily Creative Bookmarks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/illustrated-bookmarks.md) - [Limited Humorous Art Prints](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/david-shrigley-1.md) - [Playful Cat Illustrations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/open-meow.md) - [Illustrative Tech Accessories](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/richard-scarry.md) - [Surrealist-Inspired Tea Pots](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tea-for-two-collection.md) - [Adorable Cat Milk Cartons](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/adorable-blue-cat.md) - [Personality-Forward Bookmark Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/humdrum-paper.md) - [Illustration Asset Packs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/halftone.md) - [Artful Soft-Pink Dining Rooms](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-gallery-at-sketch.md)
