# Historic Townhouse Restorations Harper House by SPAN Architecture Restores Gramercy Park Home By Amy Duong | Published 2026-05-03 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/harper-house References: [span-ny](https://www.span-ny.com/) The [Harper House](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/harper-collective-1) by [SPAN Architecture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/smart-electrical-panels) is a renovation and restoration of a Greek Revival townhouse on the edge of Gramercy Park in New York City. The Harper House by SPAN Architecture returns the building from a multi-unit dwelling to a single-family residence while preserving its layered history, including ties to American music culture and its original 19th-century ownership. The project retains key historical elements such as the enfilade layout of the first floor and restored salon spaces, maintaining the architectural character of the 1846 structure. The redesign introduces contemporary interventions including a new kitchen, atrium, roof extensions, and expanded vertical circulation with added light wells and skylights. Excavation of the cellar and backyard creates additional usable space, while new terraces and a roof deck establish visual connections to surrounding gardens and the park. Materials and finishes balance restored historical detailing with modern insertions.
