# Hard Drive Art Miguel Rivera Turns Broken Tech into Breathtaking Artworks By Michael Hines | Published 2009-12-15 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hard-drive-art References: [wired](http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2009/12/hard-drives-sculpture/) What do you think of when you see a broken computer? If you’re like me you see a waste of space and something that belongs in the trash. Miguel Rivera saw an artistic opportunity and created amazing hard drive art. Rivera gutted [broken laptops](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lego-fan-build) and desk tops and turned them into beautiful pieces of hard drive art. Each sculpture is made of [hard drives and disks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/buffalo-skeleton-hard-disk) that are pieced together. Rivera's hard drive art is awesome and what is most impressive to me is that Rivera isn’t a professional. He works as a systems administrator in an Air Force base overseas. He makes hard drives into art for fun. All I can say is way to go Miguel keep it up! ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.4/10 - Popularity: 75% | Activity: 78% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [DIY](https://www.trendhunter.com/diy) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Tech Upcycling:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Exploring ways to repurpose broken tech into artistic creations can lead to unique and eco-friendly products. - **DIY Art:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Encouraging individuals with non-artistic backgrounds to explore their creative side by transforming everyday objects into one-of-a-kind artworks. - **Tech-inspired Sculptures:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Creating sculptures using discarded tech components can offer a new perspective on the intersection of technology and art. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Art and Design:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Collaborating with artists and designers to showcase and promote tech-inspired artworks, opening up a new market for unique pieces. - **Environmental Sustainability:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Partnering with eco-conscious organizations to raise awareness about the importance of repurposing and recycling electronic waste. - **Digital Technology:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Leveraging digital technology and online platforms to showcase and sell tech-inspired sculptures, reaching a global audience. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Monolithic Desktop Hard Drives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/unidentifed-hard-disk-drive.md) - [Shipping Container Storage Drives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cargo-hard-drive1.md) - [Desk-Mounted Hard Drives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hard-drive-concept.md) - [Sci-Fi-Themed Hard Drives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/firecuda-external-hard-drives.md) - [Playful External Hard-Disk Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cargo-hard-drive.md) - [Repurposed Studio Scrap Pottery](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/daon-pottery.md) - [Resurrected Used Smartphones](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/project-afterlife.md) - [Repurposed Wooden Vessels](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/darren-appiagyei.md) - [Skeletal Celebratory Hard Drives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/buffalo-skeleton-hard-disk.md)
