# Hanger Chair 47 Clothes Hangers That You Can Sit On By jelalyn | Published 2008-07-21 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hanger-chair-47-clothes-hangers-that-you-can-sit-on References: [coroflot](http://www.coroflot.com/creativeseeds/) One sunny day, designer Vanessa Marie Robinson thought of a clever use for her extra dry cleaner hangers. She just had so many of them that she decided to weld 47 of her [coat hangers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/chong-shop) onto a simple steel structure so she can have a new chair in the house. I don't know if you can sit on it. But even if it isn't a fully functioning furniture, I think the hanger chair is worth all our praises. The aesthetically pleasing hanger chair was exhibited at [Salon International](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/living-artfully) du Design d'Interieur de Montreal and was also featured in the daily newspaper Le Devoir. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.2/10 - Popularity: 10% | Activity: 49% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Upcycling Furniture Designs:** Capitalizing on the increasing interest in sustainability and environmentalism, innovators are creating furniture designs that creatively repurpose everyday objects, such as clothes hangers, into new and functional pieces. - **Aesthetically-driven Furniture:** Furniture designers are experimenting with unique materials, shapes, and structures to create visually stunning and artistic furniture pieces that not only serve a functional purpose but also enhance the overall aesthetic of a space. - **Hybrid Furniture Designs:** Combining functionality with versatility, designers are creating multi-purpose furniture pieces that can be transformed to suit different needs and spaces. ### Where This Applies - **Interior Design:** Innovative furniture designs are positioning interior designers to think outside the box and create unique and personalized spaces that reflect their clients' personalities. - **Sustainability:** By encouraging the upcycling of common household objects and repurposing them into furniture pieces, the sustainability industry has a new area of focus to promote eco-friendly practices. - **Art and Design Exhibitions:** Furniture designs such as the hanger chair can be featured in art and design exhibitions and have the opportunity to attract a wide range of viewers who appreciate unique and creative designs. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Storage-Equipped Restaurant Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rack-chair.md) - [In-Car Coat Hanger Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/multi-hanger.md) - [Fishing-Inspired Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/akos-huber.md) - [Artfully Balanced Chair Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/halfway-serious.md) - [Storage-Conscious Clothing Hangers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/coat-hingers.md) - [Peaceful Geometric Hanging Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/iko-hanging-chair.md) - [Sleek Steel Structural Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/combchair.md) - [Geometrically Shaped Hanger Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/triangle-hanger.md) - [Hollow Multipurpose Armchairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tailor-armchair.md)
