Hands On Light is a lighting prototype created by Gustav Friebel for a collaboration between ERCO and [Berlin University of the Arts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/avgvst-berlin-x-crosby-studios). Presented during Berlin Design Week 2026, the lamp explores the visual effects of segmented light through a composition of seven [frosted glass spheres](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/berry-polka) held within a deep-drawn red PMMA structure.

Each sphere incorporates polished sides that interact with both the internal light source and the surrounding material, producing changing reflections and color effects. The [organic acrylic form](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/loops-lamp) contrasts with the precise geometry of the glass elements while acting as the central visual component of the design.

A chrome metal framework supports the upper assembly through a branching structure connected to a cylindrical base. A braided red power cable extends through the lamp and continues the monochromatic palette established by the acrylic body.

## Key Themes

### Key Themes Behind This Trend

- **Segmented Light Sculptures:** Segmented illumination transforms functional lamps into collectible objects, creating space for premium products that merge optical experimentation with architectural decor.
- **Frosted-glass Optics:** Frosted and polished glass elements introduce dynamic reflection effects that support new lighting formats centered on mood, color distortion, and atmospheric personalization.
- **Monochrome Acrylic Forms:** Bold single-material color palettes elevate structural components into visual signatures, opening differentiation opportunities for lighting designs that use casing as a primary aesthetic feature.

### Where This Applies

- **Lighting Design:** Experimental prototypes blending sculptural form and engineered illumination signal demand for design-led fixtures that sit between art objects and high-performance lighting systems.
- **Interior Decor:** Statement lamps with vivid materials and changing light effects expand the role of home accessories as immersive focal points for residential, hospitality, and retail environments.
- **Materials Manufacturing:** Deep-drawn PMMA, frosted glass, chrome framing, and integrated cabling highlight manufacturing potential for hybrid components that combine optical performance with expressive industrial design.
