# Frozen Intergalactic Decor The Han Solo Cabinet Handle is Another Addition to the Frozen Figure By Akihiko Tse | Published 2013-10-03 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/han-solo-cabinet-handle References: [technabob](http://technabob.com/blog/2013/09/29/han-solo-carbonite-drawer-pulls/) & [ournerdhome](http://ournerdhome.com/diy-han-solo-cabinet-pulls/) After his solidification in carbonite, Han Solo continues to be frozen in other forms; this time to become a Han Solo cabinet handle courtesy of Our Nerd Home. Using [Han Solo ice cube trays](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cocktail-ice-sets), the group’s do-it-yourself handmade [cabinet handles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cabinet-hardware) use Sculpey Premo clay as the main ingredient. The clay is then heated, a nut glued to it and painted over with some [metallic craft paint](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/meta-hardware). The sculptures are first each softened and molded into the ice tray and smoothed out. After, a little square for where the nut is screwed in to—to give the handle a little space between the cabinet and the handle—is attached together with the bolt. Following this, the sculptures are placed on a baking sheet and heated, before allowing it to cool off. Finally, the sculpture is painted with a metallic black paint to give the Han Solo cabinet handle the classic frozen look. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.5/10 - Popularity: 63% | Activity: 63% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [DIY](https://www.trendhunter.com/diy) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **DIY Home Decor:** The trend of creating unique and personalized home decor items using DIY techniques offers an opportunity for businesses to provide materials and tools to support this trend. - **Geek Chic:** The growing trend of incorporating geek culture into home decor allows for innovative products like the Han Solo cabinet handle, opening opportunities for businesses to create more sci-fi-themed home accessories. - **Nerd-inspired Crafts:** The popularity of crafting with nerdy themes, such as using Han Solo ice cube trays to create unique cabinet handles, presents a niche market for businesses to cater to with specialized crafting supplies and tutorials. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Arts and Crafts:** The arts and crafts industry can capitalize on the trend by offering unique materials, tools, and tutorials for creating DIY home decor items. - **Home Decor:** The home decor industry can explore the geek chic trend by developing a range of sci-fi-themed products, including cabinet handles inspired by popular characters like Han Solo. - **Geek Merchandise:** The market for geek merchandise can expand to include nerdy crafts, such as Han Solo-inspired cabinet handles, by collaborating with artists and crafters to create unique and licensed products. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Sci-Fi Show Drinking Vessels](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/corkcicle-x-star-wars.md) - [Hand-Knit Sci-Fi Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/handknit-scifi-sculpture.md) - [Sci-Fi-Themed Hard Drives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/firecuda-external-hard-drives.md) - [Chrome-Colored Action Figures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hot-toys-1.md) - [Colorful Vibrant Hardware Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/belt-handle.md) - [Sci Fi-Inspired Desk Decor](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lightsaber-lego.md) - [Sci-Fi Franchise Logo Puzzles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/brickbuilt-star-wars-logo.md) - [Laser Sword Hard Drives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/seagate-lightsaber-collection-firecuda-ssd.md) - [Insulated Sci-Fi Garments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/columbia-x-star-wars-skywalker-pilot-ski-collection.md)
