# Projectile Slowing Accessories This Gun Attachment Reduces a Bullet's Speed by 80 Percent By David Ingram | Published 2015-09-10 | Tech Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gun-attachment References: [gizmag](http://www.gizmag.com/alternative-police-handguns-less-lethal/39335/) & [alternativeballistics](http://www.alternativeballistics.com/) This innovative gun attachment quickly clips onto a sidearm pistol to create a less than lethal round for law enforcement. Designed by Alternative Ballistics, 'The Alternative' actually slows down the velocity of a bullet by up to 80 percent, while still creating enough stopping force to incapacitate a potential threat. Quick and easy to attach, the bright orange plastic gun attachment fits over a pistol without interfering with its sight. At the end of the barrel is a hollowed out alloy ball that catches the bullet. Once the bullet is incased, it is turned into a blunt projectile with less penetrative force but with the same amount of accuracy. After a first less lethal round has been fired, 'The Alternative' automatically detaches from the pistol, allowing the user to fire a lethal round if the need arises. With its less than lethal option, Alternative Ballistics hopes that law enforcement situations involving firearms can end with less gruesome results. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.1/10 - Popularity: 84% | Activity: 91% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Non-lethal Weaponry:** The development of gun attachments that reduce bullet velocity opens up opportunities for non-lethal options in law enforcement. - **Firearm Safety:** Accessories like 'The Alternative' provide a way to enhance firearm safety by reducing the penetrative force of bullets while maintaining accuracy. - **Less Lethal Solutions:** The creation of gun attachments that can convert lethal rounds into non-lethal projectiles offers a promising less lethal solution for law enforcement. ### Who This Affects Most - **Law Enforcement:** Law enforcement agencies could adopt gun attachments like 'The Alternative' to increase safety during potentially dangerous encounters. - **Firearm Manufacturing:** Firearm manufacturers have an opportunity to collaborate and integrate gun attachments that prioritize non-lethality and safety into their products. - **Defense Technology:** The application of projectile slowing accessories has the potential to revolutionize defense technology by offering effective non-lethal options in combat scenarios. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Gel Pellet Toy Guns](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hasbro-1.md) - [4-in-1 Gel Blasters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/unlocx-gel-blaster.md) - [Anti-Gun Water Toys](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/antigun-water-toys-jayhayspray20-promotes-change-in-societys-relationship-w.md) - [Stress-Reducing Earplug Alternatives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/earplug-alternative.md) - [Drill-Guiding Laser Attachments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/laser-attachment.md) - [Brain-Protecting Wearable Devices](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/brainprotecting-wearable-device.md) - [Adult-Targeted Foam Disc Blasters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/disc-blaster.md) - [Paintball-Shooting Security Cameras](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/paintcam-home-security-system.md) - [Digital Laser-Powered Blaster Toys](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/laser-tag-set.md)
