# Teaching Guitar Tablets 2012 CES Debuts the ION Guitar Apprentice Turning iPads into Six-Strings By Harris Jay Rosenberg Alterman | Published 2012-01-13 | Tech Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/guitar-apprentice References: [ohgizmo](http://www.ohgizmo.com/2012/01/12/ces-2012-ion-audios-guitar-apprentice-is-not-a-game-is-actually-cool/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed:) & [ionaudio](http://www.ionaudio.com/products/details/guitarapprentice) Turn your [iPad](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gemini-app-ipad) into an iShreddingMachine by using the [ION](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/arena-of-faith) ‘Guitar Apprentice,’ introduced at this year’s 2012 CES. This musical iPad accessory is shaped like a full metal guitar and allows one to place their tablet where the pickup would normally be. Once in place, the piece only needs you to strum the screen and boom: instant rockstar. This device is not just a ‘Guitar Hero’ replica, because one must actually know how to play the guitar. While the gadget may have no strings, it does have buttons for every string on all the frets that light up to help you learn chords. The Guitar Apprentice app also comes with a program that teaches basic guitar skills to get you jamming in no time. While the Guitar Apprentice is not exactly something Slash would use, it’s a great tool for beginners looking for some extra help during the learning stage. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.3/10 - Popularity: 39% | Activity: 52% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) > [Gadgets](https://www.trendhunter.com/gadgets) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Musical Tablet Accessories:** The Guitar Apprentice is an example of a musical accessory that can be attached to tablets to help with learning instruments and may spark the development of more accessories. - **Guitar Learning Apps:** The Guitar Apprentice app and program that teaches basic guitar skills is an example of the potential for more guitar learning apps and programs to be developed. - **Innovative Music Education Tools:** The Guitar Apprentice demonstrates the potential for innovative music education tools that combine technology and traditional instruments. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Music Education:** The Guitar Apprentice and other similar devices and apps have the potential to disrupt traditional music education methods. - **Tablet Accessories:** Companies that specialize in creating tablet accessories could explore creating similar musical accessories, like the Guitar Apprentice. - **Music Technology:** Innovative music technology companies could explore more devices and apps that combine technology and traditional instruments to create new learning tools, like the Guitar Apprentice. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Illuminated Guitar-Learning Tools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fret-zealot-2.md) - [Button-Activated Guitar Devices](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rockdreamer-guitarbar.md) - [AI-Powered Dynamic Guitars](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lava-genie.md) - [All-Inclusive Guitar Learning Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/guitar-learning-system.md) - [AI-Powered Guitar Pick Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/piek.md) - [Headstock-Topped MIDI Guitars](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/midi-guitars.md) - [Effect-Emitting Guitar Gadgets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/guitar-gadgets.md) - [Children-Forward Guitar Companies](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/smallscale-electric-guitars.md) - [Interactive Music Learning](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/notewize-guitar-lessons.md)
