# Low-Tech Culinary Contraptions The Guillotine Kitchen Scale Makes Basic Function Contemporary By Amelia Roblin | Published 2011-10-31 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/guillotine-kitchen-scale References: [industrialdesignserved](http://www.industrialdesignserved.com/gallery/Guillotine/1461391) Looking at the smooth and sleek Guillotine Kitchen Scale, one might expect that it employs cutting-edge technology incorporated in the most compact way, when in fact, this streamlined apparatus actually gauges the weight of its contents in a much more elementary way. It is simply the assessment of the displacement of the upper surface which indicates the mass within the glass bowl above. The structure of the measuring device is made from a thin rolled sheet of [spring steel](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shinwa), meeting at one side but remaining disconnected. The pliable material is compressed with the placement of items in its [transparent dish](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dreamfarms), causing the top to tilt and the upper flap to sink below the detached lower flap. The elegantly uncomplicated Guillotine Kitchen Scale by Chiara Goose Gustinelli reveals a numerical value through an aperture in the bottom tab. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.7/10 - Popularity: 76% | Activity: 58% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Low-tech Culinary Contraptions:** Opportunity for creating innovative, low-tech kitchen gadgets that offer a minimalist and functional design. - **Streamlined Apparatus:** Opportunity to incorporate simple and sleek designs in various consumer products, not just kitchen scales. - **Transparent Dish Measurement:** Opportunity for developing new ways to measure and assess contents using transparent materials in different industries. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Kitchen Appliance:** Opportunity for creating innovative and minimalist kitchen scales and gadgets. - **Consumer Products:** Opportunity to incorporate streamlined and elegant design features in a wide range of consumer products. - **Material Manufacturing:** Opportunity for developing new materials and manufacturing techniques for creating transparent and pliable products. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Portable Minimalist Scales](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bifur.md) - [Battery-Free Kitchen Scales](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/caso-kitchen-ecostyle.md) - [Modern Intuitive Kitchen Appliances](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-hoto.md) - [Multifunctional Kitchen Scales](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/precision-scale-with-timer.md) - [Minimalist Magnetic Coffee Scales](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/laybird-coffee-magattach.md) - [Multi-Functional Kitchen Tools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/multifunctional-kitchen-tools.md) - [Sleek Rounded Measuring Tools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/enso-tape.md) - [Skateboard-Inspired Body Scales](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/skateboard-scale.md) - [High-Precision Sensor Scales](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/household-smart-scale.md)
