# Incognito Cave Pavilions Callum Morton Combines the Past and the Modern in his Grotto Pavilion By Jessica Marcel | Published 2010-03-28 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/grotto-pavilion References: [dezeen](http://www.dezeen.com/2010/03/25/grotto-by-callum-morton/) & [grotto09.nl](http://www.grotto09.nl/) Callum Morton was commissioned to design and complete a Grotto Pavilion in the middle of this Baroque garden in the Netherlands. The design he came up with is anything but Baroque. A cave design is encased in a [rectangular glass housing](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/beaufort-bushland-retreat). During the day, the glass reflects and all you see form the outside is a [black glass box](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dropstop). At night, however, the inner cave in the Grotto Pavilion is illuminated. It kind of looks like a freaky blob is growing inside of the glass case at night. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.6/10 - Popularity: 56% | Activity: 13% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Baroque-inspired Architecture:** Opportunity for creating modern interpretations of traditional architectural styles. - **Transparent Structures:** Opportunity to design buildings with glass enclosures to showcase innovative interior designs. - **Nighttime Illumination:** Opportunity to create visually captivating structures that transform in appearance during the night. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Architecture:** Opportunity for architects to explore new techniques and designs that combine historical elements with modern aesthetics. - **Interior Design:** Opportunity to focus on creating visually stunning interior spaces that can be appreciated from the outside through glass enclosures. - **Lighting Design:** Opportunity to develop innovative lighting solutions that enhance the visual impact of structures at night. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Reflective Indoor Gardens](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/space-caviar.md) - [Contemporary Garden Pavilions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/garden-pavilion-2.md) - [Cave-Inspired Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cave-bureau.md) - [Hotel Ground-Transformed Pavilions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/duho-pavilion.md) - [Mushroom-Like Wooden Pavilions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/carbon-garden-pavilion.md) - [Serene Wooden Garden Pavilions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/garden-pavilion-1.md) - [Lunar-Based Rotating Pavilions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/moon-pavilion.md) - [Scandinavian Stone Pavilions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mountain-chamber.md) - [Open-Air Steel Living Space](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/missing-room.md)
