# Minimalist Grid Shelves The Hash Grid Self is a Minimalist Design Piece By Vasiliki Marapas | Published 2014-05-13 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/grid-shelf References: [dezeen](http://www.dezeen.com/2014/05/12/hash-shelving-unit-by-minimalux-mark-holmes/) & [minimalux](http://minimalux.com/) The Hash Grid Shelf by Minimalux is made using 33 [precision-milled metal bars](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/barred-collection). This is the first piece of furniture for the London design brand, founded by former design director at Established & Sons, Mark Holmes. Holmes, who launched Minimalux in 2009, explains that the brand has been looking to expand without compromising its commitment to quality. He elucidates, "In the process we've created a series of larger designs that maintain the same material and formal values we've worked very hard to build and communicate." Holmes has conceived Hash as the beginning of a [new genre within the company](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dpartment), one which he refers to as "engineered furniture." The unit is available in [stainless or polished brass](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pli-steel-wall-shelf), a material which responds well to age, developing a timeless sheen. The lasting quality of the material is especially appealing considering the "throw-away culture," as Holmes describes it, that we live in today. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.8/10 - Popularity: 86% | Activity: 21% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Precision-milled Metal Bars:** The use of precision-milled metal bars in design pieces presents opportunities for enhancing structural integrity and creating unique aesthetics. - **Engineered Furniture:** The concept of engineered furniture opens up possibilities for creating innovative and functional designs that prioritize both form and function. - **Sustainable Materials:** The use of sustainable materials, such as stainless or polished brass, in furniture design caters to the growing demand for eco-friendly and long-lasting products. ### Who This Affects Most - **Furniture Manufacturing:** Furniture manufacturers can explore the use of precision-milled metal bars and engineered furniture concepts to create cutting-edge designs with enhanced durability and functionality. - **Interior Design:** Interior designers can incorporate precision-milled metal bars and engineered furniture into their projects to offer clients unique and visually appealing design solutions. - **Sustainable Design:** The use of sustainable materials like stainless or polished brass in furniture design aligns with the sustainable design industry, offering opportunities for eco-conscious designers and manufacturers. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Versatile Modern Shelves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/utility-shelf.md) - [Minimal Collaborative Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ash-furniture.md) - [Handle-Equipped Planter Shelves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/minimalist-plant-shelf.md) - [Modular Bent-Metal Storage](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sfso-1.md) - [Abstract Jigsaw-Like Shelving](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/spectator-shelf.md) - [Customizable Style-Conscious Shelving](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ledoux-modular-shelf-system.md) - [Modern Modular Shelving Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shelving-unit-01.md) - [Modular Storage Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/original-modern-shelving.md) - [Minimal Gridded Umbrella Stands](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-grid.md)
