Upon further inspection, however, it becomes quickly apparent that the design is not only playful, but extremely practical as well. It features a [singular drawstring feature](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sipario) that allows it to [illuminate spaces in different directions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/moodi). Designed by Karin Wallenbeck, John Astbury and Bengt Brummer of Whatswhat for a school project, the Greta Pendent Lamp boasts an easily manipulated [fan-like aesthetic](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/interactive-folding-lamp) that encourages people to open or close it at whim. According to the designers, “The inspiration came from the concept of potential energy about movement and rest--how we can change not only the character of the lamp but also the light it emits through motion." ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.3/10 - Popularity: 59% | Activity: 31% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Customizable Lighting Fixtures:** Innovative designs that allow users to manipulate and direct the light output. - **Singular Control Features:** Light fixtures with unique controls, such as drawstrings, for users to adjust the light output. - **Interactive Lighting Design:** Light fixtures that encourage user interaction and exploration to create different light outputs. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Home Décor:** Customizable lighting fixtures provide opportunities to innovate and create unique styles for residential spaces. - **Architectural Design:** Innovative lighting design has the potential to add an extra layer of creativity to architectural spaces. - **Retail Design:** Interactive lighting design can enhance the atmosphere of retail spaces and potentially attract more customers. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Mixed Material Pendant Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gant-pendant-lights.md) - [Elegant Axis-Mounted Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pendulum-lamp.md) - [Paper-Made Origami Illuminators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hanging-origami-lamp.md) - [Outlet-Equipped Workstation Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/avro-pendant-lamp.md) - [Interactive Lamp Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tangent-lamp.md) - [Customizable Industrial Lamp Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pi-modular-lamp.md) - [Hat-Like Fabric Illuminators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flying-lamp.md) - [Umbrella-Inspired Whimsical Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wasaga-lamp.md) - [Illusory Multidimensional Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/drop-light.md)
