# Exoskeleton-Based Furniture Gregoire de Lafforest Represents Animals with His Latest Work By Jamie Danielle Munro | Published 2014-06-17 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gregoire-de-lafforest References: [designboom](http://www.designboom.com/design/gregoire-de-lafforest-furniture-exoskeletons-06-17-2014/) & [gregoiredelafforest](http://www.gregoiredelafforest.com/) Gregoire de Lafforest is a forward-thinking artist who has based his latest work on exoskeletons, something that's not often seen when it comes to furniture designs. According to DesignBoom, "the design process began with the observation that scientific researchers have been developing biomechanical or machine-like exoskeletons for medical, industrial, and military purposes." Lafforest wanted to translate this to his own work. Pieces in the collection include a wardrobe, a dining table and a [coffee table](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/carpentopod), both made from a darker wood material. Although each design has a symbolic meaning, they are all still very functional, and would work nicely in a modern home with the darker finishing. For being based on exoskeletons, these furniture designs take on an extremely classy feel.
