On a daily basis, many of us use our computers for hours and hours and don't take the time to power down or put our displays to sleep when we step away; however, GreenCam is an app that will help you [conserve energy](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sunny-by-uncharted) by [automatically shutting off your monitor](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/screen-management) when you walk away from it.

GreenCam, created by the Brazilian company Ecobenefícios, is an eco-friendly addition to your webcam that turns it into a [motion sensor](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/smart-sleep-timer). When GreenCam senses that you've walked away from your computer, it automatically turns off your computer screen, and vice versa if it detects that you're back at your desk. An innovation like this is useful in any office or home environment, helping desk-bound workers save money and the planet at the same time.
