# Gravity-Defying Street Art These Installations Put a Twist on Commonly Seen Street Clutter By Mishal Omar | Published 2016-06-27 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gravity-defying-art References: [thisiscolossal](http://www.thisiscolossal.com/2016/06/gravity-defying-shoes-installed-on-the-streets-of-london-by-pejac/?utm_source=feedly&utm_medium=webfeeds) & [pejac.es](http://www.pejac.es/) Spanish street artist Pejac created four installations of gravity-defying art in London, Ontario. Most people have seen shoes tied to or hanging from power lines in cities and there are many theories as to why this happens, with explanations blaming everything from bullies to drug dealers. This gravity-defying art exhibition takes this common practice and turns it upside down in these 'Downside Up' installations. The small installations feature shoes that, instead of hanging down towards the street, appear to "hang" upwards. The effect is quite unusual and makes it look as though the shoes are attempting to float to follow an unseen force. This project turns a normally unnoticed occurrence into an interesting piece of art by simply flipping perspectives. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.6/10 - Popularity: 67% | Activity: 33% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Graffiti](https://www.trendhunter.com/graffiti) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Gravity-defying Art:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Explore new ways to challenge gravity and create visually captivating art installations. - **Upside-down Installations:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Reimagine common street clutter by presenting them in unexpected and unconventional orientations. - **Flipping Perspectives:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Use visual tricks and illusions to change the way people perceive and interact with everyday objects. ### Where This Applies - **Street Art:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Incorporate innovative and gravity-defying techniques into street art to enhance urban environments and engage audiences. - **Public Installations:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Create interactive and mind-bending installations in public spaces to provoke thought and inspire creativity. - **Urban Design:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Integrate unconventional art installations into urban landscapes to enhance aesthetics and create unique experiences for residents and visitors. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Warped Georgian Townhouse Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/a-week-at-the-knees.md) - [Distorted Furniture Street Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/first-kiss-at-last-light.md) - [Artful Suspended Fashion Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/invisible-figures.md) - [Spiky Inflatable Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/inflatable-sculptures1.md) - [Optical Illusion Replica Artworks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/liberty-science-center.md) - [Lightning-Inspired Artful Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bright-light-shining.md) - [Resin Gravity Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-great-tree.md) - [Gas Rig Art Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/striking-art-installation.md) - [Fluid Function Art Exhibits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/optical-flow.md)
