# Spiky Gothic Candelabras The Gravity Candle Holder by Jolan Van Der Wiel is Dark and Dramatic By Meghan Young | Published 2013-01-10 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gravity-candle-holder References: [design-milk](http://design-milk.com/gravity-candleholder-by-jolan-van-der-wiel/) & [jolanvanderwiel](http://jolanvanderwiel.com/gravity-candle-holder) The Gravity Candle Holder has been aptly named. Although its spiky surface hints at its gravity-defying properties, the name refers more to the process than the outcome. Like its predecessor, the [Gravity Stool](http://www.trendhunter.com/trends/jolan-van-der-wiel), it is fashioned using a unique magnet machine dubbed the Gravity Tool--no surprise there. This tool projects a strong magnetic field that manipulates the mixture of resin and iron oxides that the Gravity Candle Holder is made out of. Once the desired shape is achieved, the material cures in about 30 minutes. Designed by Dutch designer Jólan van der Wiel, the Gravity Candle Holder has a [Gothic aesthetic](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/black-jar-candle) that will appeal to those who tend towards darker, more dramatic home decor. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 0.5/10 - Popularity: 7% | Activity: 1% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Spiky Gothic Candelabras:** The Gravity Candle Holder by Jolan Van Der Wiel brings a dark and dramatic aesthetic to candelabras. ### Where This Applies - **Home Decor:** There is an opportunity for the home decor industry to create more gothic-inspired products like the Gravity Candle Holder. - **Product Design:** Designers have the opportunity to explore unique manufacturing techniques, such as using a magnet machine, to create innovative products like the Gravity Candle Holder. - **Art and Sculpture:** Artists and sculptors can take inspiration from the Gothic aesthetic of the Gravity Candle Holder to create dark and dramatic pieces for exhibitions. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Interestingly Shaped Candle Holders](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/poise-candle-holder.md) - [Architectural Candle Holders](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/core-candle-holder.md) - [Warm Ambient Candle Holders](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/reflet.md) - [Fire-Inspired Artful Candelabras](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/forge-candelabra.md) - [Stone Cube Candle Holders](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/qub-candlestick.md) - [Ritual Sculptural Candle Holders](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/alma-mater.md) - [Vertical Tea-Light Holders](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tolo-tea-candle.md) - [Luxe Refillable Candle Holders](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/les-mondes-de-diptyque.md) - [Sleek Metallic Incense Holders](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/luxury-incense-holder.md)
