# Flora-Seated Furniture The Elliot Gorham Lawn Chair Mixes Outdoor Living with Contemporary Design By Tana Makmanee | Published 2013-01-03 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/grassy-outdoor-furniture References: [noddyboffin](http://www.noddyboffin.com/portfolio/lawn-chair/) Seeking to combine both sleek design and environmental sustainability, designer Elliot Gorham has created a unique concept for outdoor living with this literal lawn chair. With ambitions to bring contemporary indoor elegance outside, Gorham has created a piece of outdoor furniture that allows for ultimate comfort while incorporating one of nature’s elements: grass. Created to be both contemporary and practical, the seat area of the chair contains a bed of lawn, which allows for someone to casually sit or lay down for ultimate relaxation -- the idea is to make being outside much more comfortable. The chair has also been created to allow for sustainability; essentially, it’s like a plant. Equipped with adequate drainage and soil depth, as well as waterproofing and methods of preservation, this lawn chair has been created to provide a contemporary outdoor living experience while incorporating part of the natural environment. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.4/10 - Popularity: 51% | Activity: 72% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Sustainable Outdoor Furniture:** Opportunity for innovative furniture designs that incorporate eco-friendly materials and elements of nature. - **Indoor-inspired Outdoor Living:** Space for unique outdoor furniture concepts that bring the comfort and elegance of indoor design to outdoor spaces. - **Integration of Nature in Furniture:** Potential for furniture designs that incorporate natural elements like grass to enhance the outdoor experience. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Furniture Manufacturing:** Potential for furniture manufacturers to explore new designs and materials that align with sustainable and nature-inspired trends. - **Outdoor Retail:** Opportunity for retailers to cater to the growing demand for contemporary, comfortable, and eco-friendly outdoor furniture pieces. - **Sustainability and Eco-friendly Products:** Growth potential for industries focusing on sustainable and eco-friendly products, including furniture and outdoor living solutions. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Sprouting Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wood-chair-on-grass.md) - [Living Plant DIY Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/green-hideaway.md) - [Comfort-Focused Outdoor Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-grapy-lounge-chair.md) - [Sustainable Hi-Rise Outdoor Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lollygagger.md) - [Ergonomic Latticed Sofa Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gardiners-sofa.md) - [Sustainable Structural Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-limbo-chair.md) - [Chaotically Natural Seating Solutions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kkochgalam-chair.md) - [Leaf-Inspired Modern Lounge Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/modern-lounge-chair1.md) - [Drink-Holding Outdoor Lounge Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lago-lounge-chair.md)
