# Functional Tranforming Furnishings Map-Inspired Grand Central Table by Lindstrom and Stromgren By Jessica Marcel | Published 2010-01-30 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/grand-central-table References: [mocoloco](http://mocoloco.com/fresh2/2010/01/29/grand-central-by-sanna-lindstrom-and-sigrid-stromgren.php) & [sannalindstrom](http://www.sannalindstrom.com/) Designers Sanna Lindstrom and Sigrid Stromgren joined their considerable talents to create the [Grand Central](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sbga527) table. The design of the table is based on the way a tourist map folds out. The Grand Central table can be [folded up and stored away](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/taso-tray-table), but when it’s needed it expands into action. Lindstrom and Stromgren are both from Sweden. Their Grand Central table is functional and neat, which is probably why it was selected for the [D3] Talents Contest at IMM Cologne in February. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.0/10 - Popularity: 10% | Activity: 41% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Functional Transforming Furnishings:** Opportunity for creating innovative furniture designs that serve multiple purposes and can be easily stored or expanded as needed. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Furniture Design:** The furniture industry can explore functional transforming designs to cater to smaller living spaces or provide versatility to consumers. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Multifuntional Modular Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-transformer-table.md) - [Industrial Shapeshifting Table Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/jointable.md) - [Folding Scandinavian Table Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lounge-table.md) - [Elegant Table Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tangent-table.md) - [Origami-Inspired Lit Table Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lightup.md) - [Compact Functional Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bookmarker-table.md) - [Adaptive Furniture Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/expand-furniture.md) - [Modular Rotating Table Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/finding-turn-point.md) - [Sophisticated Table Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/monumental-table.md)
