It is meant to store grains, spices, and pasta and it takes on the form of a classic hourglass. It is more than a kitchen item as it nods to history as well. The hourglass is a vessel that measures intervals of time using the flow of sand that goes from one bulb to the other through a narrow neck. It is now replaced by kitchen staples and the glass container has the same structure as the traditional hourglass shape. The smaller section is great for items including powdered forms of food and spices or small pasta shapes.
