This agreement will see some members of the HTC Vive engineering team joining Google to bolster its Android XR development efforts. The acquisition is expected to enhance Google's capabilities in the virtual and augmented reality space, with the newly acquired team bringing a proven track record in VR technology. The deal also includes a non-exclusive license for HTC's extended reality intellectual property, allowing HTC to continue developing its own XR products. HTC has stated that this agreement will not affect its ongoing development of Vive products. The company remains committed to its XR ecosystem and will continue to support and develop its existing product lines, such as the [Vive Focus Vision](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vive-focus-vision) headset. The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions and is anticipated to be finalized in the first quarter of 2025. This move is part of Google's broader strategy to accelerate the development of its Android XR platform across various headsets and glasses.
