# Gigantic Glowing Spherical Lanterns Golden Moon is a Centerpiece for the Festival in Hong Kong By Nikki Taylor | Published 2012-10-05 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/golden-moon References: [inspir3d.net](http://inspir3d.net/2012/10/04/golden-moon-shone-in-hong-kongs-victoria-park/) & [discoverhongkong](http://www.discoverhongkong.com/eng/index.jsp) [Golden Moon](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/golden-leaf) is a spectacularly large circular ball close to the water that allows visitors the pleasure of going inside and looking around. The structure is 18-meters tall and made of bamboo wood and steel that is covered with stretch fabric that clings to the rods like flaky reptilian scales. The [scaly sphere](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/netherlands-pavilion) is able to glow due to the numerous amount of LED lights that trail down the sides of each piece of fabric and criss-cross the rods inside of the structure. Inside of the sphere are [suspended Chinese lanterns](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/chinese-paper-umbrella) that further add to the awe-inspiring nature of the effervescent orb. Golden Moon was created as a centerpiece for the Lee Kum Kee Lantern Wonderland festival that is held in Hong Kong in Autumn. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.4/10 - Popularity: 57% | Activity: 37% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Glowing Lantern Installations:** Opportunity for event companies to incorporate innovative glowing installations as centerpieces for outdoor events. - **Bamboo and LED Lighting Technologies:** Opportunity for architects and designers to explore the use of bamboo and LED lighting technologies as a sustainable and energy-efficient construction material for future infrastructure projects. - **Interactive and Immersive Environments:** Opportunity for entertainment and hospitality industries to offer immersive and interactive environments that engage and entertain guests. ### Where This Applies - **Event Planning and Production:** There is a disruptive innovation opportunity for event planning and production companies to create unique and interactive installations using LED lighting technologies and bamboo materials. - **Architecture and Design:** There is a disruptive innovation opportunity for architects and designers to explore the use of bamboo and LED lighting technologies in buildings and infrastructure projects. - **Entertainment and Hospitality:** There is a disruptive innovation opportunity for the entertainment and hospitality industries to create immersive and interactive environments for their guests using innovative lighting and construction materials. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Luminous Park Domes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/osmanthus-moon.md) - [Lunar-Based Rotating Pavilions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/moon-pavilion.md) - [Outdoor Light-Up Globes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/moongarden.md) - [Pointy Paper Lantern Pavilions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/paper-lantern-pavilion.md) - [Inaugural Paper Lantern Festivals](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sky-lantern-festival.md) - [Silk Textural Lantern Lighting](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lantern-collection.md) - [Sculptural Lunar Lighting Solutions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/moonsetter-floor-lamp.md) - [Elegant Miniature Mooncake Boxes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/miniature-mooncake-box.md) - [Glowing Whimsical Storybook Lanterns](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fable-lantern.md)
