The gel is named glycerol monolaurate or GML, and is already approved by the [FDA](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/glissant) for use. When experimenting with five rhesus macaque monkeys, results were that no immediate signs of AIDS were seen in the monkeys after being treated with GML. One monkey did have symptoms of the disease several months later.
