# Luminous Sphere Seating Manfred Kielnhofer's Glowing Light Ball Bench is Pretty and Practical By Meghan Young | Published 2012-03-05 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/glowing-light-ball-bench References: [plusmood](http://plusmood.com/2012/03/glowing-light-ball-bench-manfred-kielnhofer-2) & [kielnhofer.at](http://kielnhofer.at/) As aesthetically pleasing as the Glowing Light Ball Bench may be, there is an even bigger practical aspect to the seat's light ball supports. It provides an ambient light for indoor and outdoor spaces that ensures people know where to sit when it is unusually dark and safeguards against potential accidents. Created by Austrian designer and artist Manfred Kielnhofer, the Glowing Light Ball Bench was unveiled at the Light Art Biennial Austria. A simple design, it consists of [three large balls in different colors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/big-glow-light) (red, green and white) that hold up [two wooden or plastic planks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/move-a-little-bit-further), both of which have been crafted to take on a sinuous shape. The Glowing Light Ball Bench "is based on philosophical thinking patterns," according to Plus Mood. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.8/10 - Popularity: 24% | Activity: 21% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Ambient Lighting:** The use of ambient lighting in furniture design creates a visually pleasing and practical solution for dark spaces. - **Sculptural Seating:** The incorporation of sculptural elements in seating design adds an artistic touch while providing functionality. - **Safety Design:** Integrating safety features into furniture design helps prevent accidents and promotes user well-being. ### Where This Applies - **Furniture Design:** The furniture design industry can explore incorporating ambient lighting and sculptural elements into their products. - **Interior Design:** Interior designers can utilize ambient lighting seating designs to enhance the aesthetic and functionality of indoor spaces. - **Art and Sculpture:** Artists and sculptors can experiment with merging functional seating designs with artistic elements to create unique and visually striking pieces. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Traffic Light-Inspired Benches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/traffic-light-bench.md) - [Sculptural Gravity Benches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/floating-bench.md) - [Dual Sculpture Seating Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/immaterial-0001.md) - [Chic Recycled Aluminum Benches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bello-bench.md) - [Rotating Solar Powered Benches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/eness-1.md) - [Stainless Steel Reflective Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dream-view-chair.md) - [Floating LED Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/poof-light.md) - [Kinetic Musical Benches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/musical-bench.md) - [Elegantly Airy Outdoor Benches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/arch-bench.md)
