# Flammable Globe Sculptures This Globe Sculpture by Andy Yoder is Made Entirely Out of Matches By Eric Westcott | Published 2014-04-04 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/globe-sculpture References: [rsvlts](http://www.rsvlts.com/2014/03/31/globe-of-matches/) & [andyyoder](http://andyyoder.com/) From far away, this globe sculpture doesn’t look like any special, but as you get closer, you find that it is made entirely out of matchsticks. Sculptor Andy Yoder spent two years creating this masterful globe sculpture. The amount of detail that is put into this sculpture is remarkable. Using [different-colored matches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/crystal-sandsara), Yoder has created deserts, forests and the oceans. Topping it all off, he has added [cloud cover](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/see-earth) to the globe. If you look closely, he also has a hurricane hitting the east coast of the United States, which gives the thought that Yoder was working off of an aerial map that was shown when Hurricane Sandy hit the east coast. I hope for Yoder’s sake that his globe is stored in a cool area, because it would be a shame to see this sculpture go down in flames. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 0.7/10 - Popularity: 8% | Activity: 4% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Sculpture Artistry with Unconventional Materials:** The use of unconventional materials like matchsticks to create intricate sculptures presents an opportunity for artists to push boundaries and explore new realms of creativity. - **Intricate Detailing in Artwork:** The demand for artwork with high levels of intricate detailing using various materials provides an opportunity for artists to showcase their craftsmanship and captivate audiences. - **Environmental Awareness in Art:** The creation of art pieces that promote environmental awareness, such as a globe sculpture made of matches, presents an opportunity for artists to convey important messages about sustainability and the impact of human actions on the planet. ### Who This Affects Most - **Art and Sculpture:** The art and sculpture industry can explore the use of unconventional materials and intricate detailing to produce unique and visually captivating artwork. - **Craft and Hobby:** The craft and hobby industry can tap into the growing interest in unconventional and detailed artwork, providing materials and resources for hobbyists to create their own masterpieces. - **Environmental Awareness Campaigns:** Environmental organizations and campaigns can leverage art as a powerful tool to raise awareness about sustainability and inspire action towards a more eco-friendly future. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Striking Sculptural Candles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sculpture-candle.md) - [3D-Printed Population Statues](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mathieu-lehanneur-created.md) - [Fire-Inspired Artful Candelabras](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/forge-candelabra.md) - [Geometric Wooden Art Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aleph-geddis.md) - [Otherworldly Wooden Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wooden-sculptures-1.md) - [Intricate Glass Whisky Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/luminary-no2-rare-sculpture.md) - [Beeswax Sculptural Candles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/greentree.md) - [Digital Archetype Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/christian-rex-van-minnen-1.md) - [Scientifically-Accurate Glass Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/glass-microbiology.md)
