[NASA](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/solar-eclipse-poster) is enlisting "citizen scientists" to help record data through the Globe Observer program for the upcoming solar eclipse that will cross the continental United States in August.

Curiously enough, during a solar eclipse, temperatures will change rapidly and [animals will fall silent](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/haiku-box). Scientists are aware of these facts, but they're unsure exactly why or how these things happen. NASA is hoping to track the temperature changes in real-time. Anyone in North America is welcome to download the app and record the plummeting temperatures in their geographical region.

By expanding its research to a wider demographic, NASA is creating an education platform that's as equally beneficial for the participants as it is for the researchers.
