# Global Catastrophe Storage The Doomsday Vault By Sandra Winn | Published 2008-12-03 | Eco Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/global-catastrophe-storage-facilities-the-doomsday-vault References: [freshcreation](http://www.freshcreation.com/entry/doomsday_vault/) & [news.nationalgeographic](http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2008/02/photogalleries/seedvault-pictures/index.html) In February of 2008, news sources such as NBC Nightly News and [National Geographic](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/museum-of-exploration) announced the opening of ‘The Doomsday Vault’, a massive structure designed by scientists used to store and preserve the world’s seeds in case of a global catastrophe, like a global thermonuclear war or a meteor hitting the earth. Although news of the Doomsday Vault is months old, it caused me to ponder whether we would see similar structures being built as a preemptive measure to preserve other forms of life should a global catastrophic event occur, be it natural or man-made. Considering the advancements in technology such as freezing sperm and embryos, I think it’s highly plausible that we may one day see a global measure for [cryopreservation facility](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/round-vault-door) built in a remote location, like the Doomsday Vault. It would be complete with tons of security and nuclear-proof, to ensure that one day [birds, reptiles, and mammals](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-bird-mammal-shelter) will one day thrive should the worst happen. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.1/10 - Popularity: 21% | Activity: 3% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Eco](https://www.trendhunter.com/eco) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Global Cryopreservation Facilities:** Opportunity to build cryopreservation facilities as a preemptive measure to preserve various forms of life in the event of a global catastrophic event. - **Remote Cryopreservation Vaults:** Potential for the establishment of secure and nuclear-proof cryopreservation vaults in remote locations for the preservation of different species in case of a global disaster. - **Advancements in Cryopreservation Technology:** Growing possibilities for cryopreservation technology, such as freezing sperm and embryos, to contribute to the creation of global cryopreservation facilities. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Biotechnology:** Biotechnology companies that specialize in cryopreservation techniques and technologies could play a crucial role in the development of global cryopreservation facilities. - **Security & Protection:** Opportunity for security and protection industries to provide specialized solutions for the secure storage and maintenance of cryopreserved specimens in remote cryopreservation vaults. - **Environmental Conservation:** Environmental conservation organizations may have a stake in the establishment of cryopreservation facilities to ensure the preservation of various species in the face of global catastrophes. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Dramatic Doomsday Bunker Images](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/alastair-philip-wiper.md) - [Digital Asset-Focused Physical Vaults](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/physical-vault.md) - [Off-World Molecular Data Archives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/molecular-data-archive.md) - [Digital Time Capsules](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/digital-time-capsules.md) - [Sustainable Alien Planet Colonies](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/colony-concept.md) - [Cutting-Edge Snow Storage](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/snow-storage.md) - [Male Fertility Kits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/legacy-kit.md) - [Climate-Responsive Prefab Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/drop-pod.md) - [Trading Card Vaults](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ebay-vault.md)
