# Transparent Botanical Abodes Kenneth Hobgood Architects 'Gk House' is an Ode to Flora By Jordy E | Published 2012-08-09 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gk-house References: [contemporist](http://www.contemporist.com/2012/08/04/gk-house-by-kenneth-hobgood-architects) & [kennethhobgood](http://www.kennethhobgood.com) Kenneth Hobgood Architects 'GK House' has been constructed in North Carolina's Chapel Hill district. Transparent plates of glass allow viewers to look deep into the grounds that extend for approximately 1.5 acres. The history of the space upon which GK House is built is as deep as its view, if not more. Hobgood's team decided to use the Coker Estate as its foundation, also known as the home of botanist Dr. Coker. It was he who brought an assortment of plants to Chapel Hill, and the region has continued to commemorate his contributions to the flora-based field from the time of his passing. GK House's see-through structure fits with Coker Estates past as it permits North Carolina residents to become one with nature. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.9/10 - Popularity: 41% | Activity: 7% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Architecture](https://www.trendhunter.com/architecture) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Transparent Architecture:** Opportunity to explore innovative designs that incorporate transparency to create a seamless connection between indoor and outdoor spaces. - **Botanical Integration:** Potential for incorporating botanical elements into architectural designs as a way to celebrate and connect with the natural environment. - **Heritage-inspired Design:** Emerging trend of preserving and showcasing historical significance through architectural design, honoring the contributions of past figures like botanist Dr. Coker. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Architecture:** Architects can explore new ways to incorporate transparency and botanical elements into their designs, promoting a deeper connection with nature. - **Landscaping:** Opportunities for landscaping professionals to incorporate botanical elements and create seamless transitions between indoor and outdoor spaces. - **Tourism and Hospitality:** Hotels and resorts can leverage transparent architecture and botanical integration to offer unique and immersive experiences to nature-conscious travelers. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Lush Surroundings Glass Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/glass-house-1.md) - [Contemporary Nature-Inspired Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nebo-house.md) - [Landscape-Integrated Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-by-the-grove.md) - [History-Honoring Dynamic Bright Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ginko-house.md) - [Green Garden-Surrounding Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hillside-house-1.md) - [Living Landscape Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hedge-and-arbour-house.md) - [Planted Balcony Home Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-of-greens.md) - [Apple Tree-Surrounding Glass Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/acdf.md) - [Glass‑brick Belgian Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/glass-brick-house.md)
