I love this giant, wonderful, graphic shelving unit which reminds me of a beautiful spider’s web. It is in fact an art piece which was showed to the public at Art Basel in Miami in December 2008 as part of a multimedia exhibition featuring painting, sculpture, video and performance from artists all over the world. The title of the exhibition was ‘It ain’t fair,’ presented by [O.H.W.O.W.](http://www.oh-wow.com/previous/itaintfair_2008.php) who had instructed a number of art curators to create a huge exhibition with the focus on downtown Manhattan. The whole show was unified by a black line pattern that ran through the show rooms and and climaxed in this lovely bookcase. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.6/10 - Popularity: 72% | Activity: 87% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 10% men, 90% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Graphic Bookshelves:** Designing unconventional bookshelves that double up as art pieces is a disruptive innovation opportunity. - **Multi-functional Furniture:** Creating furniture that serves multiple purposes can be a potential trend in the furniture industry. - **Interactive Art Exhibits:** Integrating art installations that allow for interactive engagement with visitors could be a new trend in the art industry. ### Who This Affects Most - **Furniture:** Incorporating unconventional designs in furniture-making could be a disruptive innovation opportunity in the industry. - **Interior Design:** Integrating multi-functional furniture could be a potential trend in the interior design industry. - **Art Exhibitions:** Creating interactive art exhibits to engage visitors could be a new trend in the art exhibition industry. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Sculptural Bookshelves Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sculptural-bookshelf.md) - [Sliding Wintery Landscape Bookshelves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/manhwabang-bookshelf.md) - [Video Game-Like Bookcases](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tetris-bookcase.md) - [Twisting CGI-Designed Sideboards](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bookscrew-sideboard.md) - [Book-Storing Side Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bookgroove-bookrack.md) - [Twisting Donut-Shaped Bookshelves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hullabaloo-bookshelf.md) - [Dynamic Geometric Bookshelves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cheft.md) - [Dynamic Architecturally Strong Bookshelves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dogma.md) - [Speaker-Inspired Shelving](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lloyd-tex.md)
