The unit acts as a hybrid furniture piece that acts as a shelf when not being directly used and as a dining table at dinnertime to make the absolute most of every inch of an open-concept living space. The unit is integrated with castors and made with high-quality materials to ensure that it can be easily shifted or even moved between rooms to keep things stylishly efficient. The 'SHIFT' furniture piece from German Smart Living speaks to the larger movement towards multifunctional decor items as urban living spaces continue to become more compact. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.6/10 - Popularity: 96% | Activity: 64% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/furniture) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Multifunctional Furniture Pieces:** As people seek to maximize their living spaces, there is an opportunity for furniture companies to innovate and create pieces that serve multiple purposes without sacrificing style. - **Compact Living Solutions:** As urban living spaces become more compact, there is an opportunity for companies to create products that address the unique needs of this demographic. - **Versatile Home Decor:** As consumers look for ways to be more efficient with their living spaces, there is an opportunity for companies to create decor items that serve multiple purposes. ### Who This Affects Most - **Furniture Manufacturing:** Furniture companies can take advantage of the demand for multifunctional pieces and invest in R&D to create products that cater to the needs of consumers living in small spaces. - **Interior Design:** As the need for versatile home decor increases, interior designers can focus on creating spaces that are both functional and stylish. - **Real Estate:** As urban living spaces become more compact, there is an opportunity for real estate companies to focus on developing properties that address the unique needs of this demographic. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Industrial Shapeshifting Table Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/jointable.md) - [Sliding Grid-Affixed Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/square-to-square.md) - [Adaptive Furniture Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/expand-furniture.md) - [Removable Plate Shelving Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gere-multifunctional-crockery-shelf.md) - [Ultra-Simple Multifunctional Furniture Pieces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/chairpf.md) - [Multifuntional Modular Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-transformer-table.md) - [Versatile Sideboard Desk Solutions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hideaway-swing-desk.md) - [Transforming Workspace Furniture Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/asytron-furniture.md) - [Expanding Three-in-One Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/expandy.md)
