# Wall Decor From Gnawing Gerbils Blackley Uses Hungry Rodents for “Rat Wallpaper” By Cowbag | Published 2009-01-19 | Lifestyle Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gerbil-designed-wallpaper-amazing-wallpaper-collections-by-lachlan-blackley References: [nytimes](http://www.nytimes.com/slideshow/2007/03/07/garden/20070308_CURR_SLIDESHOW_2.html) & [amazon](http://www.amazon.com/Wallpaper-Lachlan-Blackley/dp/1856695026?tag=trenhunt0f-20) The book “Wallpaper” by Lachlan Blackley brings together a collection of Blackley’s own weird and wondering wallpapers. One of the premiere patterns is this one, “Rat Wallpaper,” which was designed by allowing gerbils (Cowbag translation: rats) to chew it. The finished product lets the old wallpaper design peek out at random spots. There are also lots of other really stunning [wallpaper prints](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wallpaper-collection1) in “Wallpaper” that would liven up any room or office. I know Cow HQ has some really awesome 1970’s wallpaper originally spotted at Trend Hunter (of course). It really does rule and always cheers you up! ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.2/10 - Popularity: 17% | Activity: 11% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Lifestyle](https://www.trendhunter.com/lifestyle) > [Life](https://www.trendhunter.com/life) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Weird Wallpaper Designs:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Creating unique and unconventional wallpaper designs using unconventional materials or techniques. - **Animal-inspired Decor:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Incorporating animal behaviors or patterns into home decor products for a unique and whimsical touch. - **Peekaboo Design Elements:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Introducing design elements that allow glimpses of old patterns or images to create a playful and unexpected visual effect. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Home Decor:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Introducing unconventional and unique home decor products and designs. - **Animal Products:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Developing animal-inspired products for home decor and other industries. - **Art and Design:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Exploring unconventional techniques and materials in art and design to create visually striking and unique pieces. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Graphic Wallpaper Capsules](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/immersive-surfaces.md) - [Folk Art-Inspired Wallpapers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/backdrop.md) - [Statement Wall Covering Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/el-muro.md) - [Colorful Wallpaper Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/carte-blanche.md) - [Digital-Themed Glitchy Visual Wallpapers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/glitch-wallpaper.md) - [Uniquely Designed Artistic Wallpapers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/artistic-wallpaper.md) - [Artist-Approved Intricate Wallpaper Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/printed-decors.md) - [Gritty Rodent-Inspired Boots](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ratboot.md) - [Painting-Inspired Wallpaper Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/portals-collection.md)
