This [large geometric carpet](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/newstalgia-collection) references the 'sawdust carpets' that are made for religious and decorative purposes in Mexico, Central America and South America. This particular installation was created by the artists 'Craig and Karl' and is placed in the ITCH gallery in Guatemala City. Traditional sawdust carpets feature intricate details and imagery as well as vibrant colors, but Craig and Karl took a slightly different route in their tribute. The artists created the 'Optimistic' installation with geometry in mind, with the resulting piece of art being a [large sawdust carpet](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/textured-rug-design) made with vibrant colors that come together in asymmetrically placed geometric blocks. This geometric carpet design is able to pay homage to a traditional practice while adding a contemporary twist. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.3/10 - Popularity: 60% | Activity: 2% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, South America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Geometric Carpet Installations:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Creating modern interpretations of traditional carpet designs with geometric patterns and vibrant colors. - **Sawdust Carpet Art:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Using sawdust as a medium to create intricate and vibrant artworks inspired by traditional carpet designs. - **Contemporary Homages to Traditional Art:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Combining traditional art practices with modern design elements to create visually compelling installations and artworks. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Art Installations:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Incorporating traditional art techniques and cultural practices into contemporary installations to engage viewers in new and unique ways. - **Textile and Carpet Design:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Experimenting with unconventional materials, patterns, and color palettes to create modern and visually striking carpet designs. - **Cultural Heritage and Art Preservation:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Utilizing modern technologies and materials to preserve and showcase traditional art forms and cultural practices. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Dynamic Flatwoven Carpet Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/matter-colection.md) - [Oil Painting-Inspired Rugs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/antonio-santn.md) - [Textile Art Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/olga-de-amaral.md) - [Abstract Geometric Rugs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/discorectangle.md) - [Math-Inspired Colorful Rugs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/weave-collection.md) - [Cross-Cultural Rug Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nordic-knots-x-giancarlo-valle-rug-collection.md) - [Geometric Colorful Rug Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/giro-rug.md) - [Earth-Connecting Luxe Floor Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/la-pelota.md) - [Patterned Artisanal Hand-Tufted Rugs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/giro.md)
