The popularity of these unusual cakes was started by cake designer Rachel Teufel who's cake was all-white, except for a large imitation amethyst that created a ridge in the side of the cake. Similar bridal cakes are now being created and displayed on [Instagram](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/buttermelt-blush-cake) by different designers, with a variety of colors and types of stones being replicated to create this unusual effect. Most of the cakes that replicate this "stone-like" effect have sparse designs -- with the mineral replicas being the main feature. The popularity of geode wedding cake styles is unsurprising, as the design does not require more than [sugar to replicate the effect](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mschf-4) and the result is an extremely unique cake that is sure to impress wedding guests. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.8/10 - Popularity: 99% | Activity: 98% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Lifestyle](https://www.trendhunter.com/lifestyle) > [Food](https://www.trendhunter.com/food) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Geode Wedding Cakes:** Opportunity for cake designers to create unique and impressive cakes by replicating the appearance of minerals and stones using edible ingredients. - **Instagram Cake Design Trend:** Opportunity for cake designers to showcase their geode wedding cake creations on Instagram, gaining popularity and attracting potential customers. - **Minimalistic Cake Designs:** Opportunity for cake designers to focus on sparse designs, with the mineral replicas as the main feature, to create visually striking geode wedding cakes. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Wedding Planning:** Disruptive innovation opportunity to offer geode wedding cakes as a unique and memorable option for couples planning their weddings. - **Cake Design:** Opportunity for cake designers to explore and experiment with replicating the appearance of minerals and stones using edible ingredients in their cake designs. - **Social Media Marketing:** Disruptive innovation opportunity for businesses to leverage the trend of geode wedding cakes and showcase their creations on Instagram to attract customers and increase brand visibility. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Lobster Roll Wedding Cakes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lobster-roll-wedding-cakes.md) - [Ultra-Chic Bridal Jewelry Lines](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/2025-engagement-ring.md) - [Japanese Mountain Range Cakes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mt-fuji-chocolate-cake.md) - [Unique Wedding Bands](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/unique-wedding-bands.md) - [Design-Centric Dynamic Artful Cakes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/artful-cake.md) - [Bread-Encrusted Gemstone Jewelry](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rising-collection.md) - [Curated Wedding Jewellery Lines](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wedding-jewellery-guide.md) - [DIY Terrarium Jars](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/crackyourown-geode-crystal-terrariums.md) - [Mineral-Exploring Modern Decor Capsules](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cosmic-relics.md)
