The GeniCan is a device that attaches to your trash can and [scans the barcodes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/barcode-reader) of items being discarded, using the information to create a shopping list.

The device can be mounted to the trash can using a magnetic panel. It is designed to work with trash cans of both square and rectangular shapes and plastic and metal finishes. The device can either be powered by a cable hook-up or an internal battery. The battery is estimated to last for seven days depending on the exact extent of usage.
